The Upper Mustang Trek 18 days is an awe-inspiring journey through the hidden gem of Mustang—a mysterious, ancient region in the heart of Nepal, nestled beyond the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. Known as the "Forbidden Kingdom" for its isolated past, Mustang offers an unforgettable trekking experience filled with breathtaking landscapes, cultural richness, and historic wonders.

Starting the Adventure: From Jomsom to Mustang’s Arid Plateaus

Your Upper Mustang trek begins with a scenic flight to Jomsom, the gateway to Upper Mustang. This picturesque start introduces you to the rugged terrain and arid beauty of Mustang’s plateau. Following ancient trade routes, the trail leads you into Mustang’s stark but stunning highland desert landscapes, where the first glimpses of Lo Manthang await.

Discovering Lo Manthang: the Heart of Mustang’s Heritage

Lo Manthang, Mustang’s ancient walled town, is the heart of this trek—a place where history, spirituality, and local life converge. Here, you’ll encounter centuries-old monasteries adorned with vibrant frescoes and thankas, preserving Mustang’s artistic legacy within hidden sanctuaries tucked among cliffs and caves. This destination offers a rare chance to connect with Mustang’s authentic traditions, spiritual sites, and warm-hearted locals. On the Upper Mustang Trek, be sure to explore Chung-Si Cave and Lo Gekhar Monastery—two culturally significant sites that offer a profound connection to the region's history and traditions. Missing these spots would mean missing the heart of Upper Mustang's cultural heritage.

Mustang’s Living Culture and Traditions

This trek is timed to align with Mustang’s active season, allowing trekkers to experience the region’s lively culture. Witness villagers cultivate barley traditionally and partake in local festivals, joining rituals in ancient monasteries that reveal Upper Mustang’s deep-rooted spirituality and timeless customs.

Awe-Inspiring Himalayan Views

From Mustang’s trails, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, and the iconic Fishtail Mountain. The high-altitude landscapes, especially the spectacular Chogo-la Pass at 4,280 meters, offer serene and picturesque scenery, creating an intimate connection with the raw beauty of the Himalayas.

Why Choose the Upper Mustang Trek?

Unlike more crowded trekking routes, Upper Mustang's relative isolation means fewer tourists, providing a unique opportunity to explore this ancient land at your own pace. The Upper Mustang Trek offers peace, solitude, and an immersive cultural journey, taking you through dramatic red cliffs, pristine landscapes, and age-old villages.

      Trekking Upper Mustang

A1 Execution is an excellent organizer with whom I have been trekking for 4 times through Nepal. The organization and execution of the trek through Upper Mustang was very good as usual. Everything went safely and on time. Many little things really make the difference compared to other organizers. Raj - the boss of A1 - is friendly and always tries to fulfill all the little wishes. The porters were friendly as well...we had a lot of fun together:))!
I’m going to travel with A1 through Nepal - again and again and again :)))!
